For Ankle Replacement, first of all, an Incision is made on the front, after that the lower end of the leg bone (tibia) is cut-off to accommodate the upper piece of the implant.

The upper part of the bone present in the foot named as talus is also shaved off if required, so that the lower portion of the implant can be fitted properly.

A plastic spacer is also placed between the two implants and the whole unit is tested for proper movement.

Bone cement is applied for proper fixation of the implants after ensuring the smooth movement of the ankle joint.

Incision is then closed after the successful application of the implants.

Although the treatments like platelet rich plasma infusion, corticosteroid injections can provide some pain relief but they can't provide the mobility and quality of life like Ankle Replacement surgery. The Ankle Replacement surgeries have increased dramatically in number in the recent past, as with the help of the new, more efficient implants, the results are amazing. The patient can resume his/her daily activities without pain after a period of rehabilitation, and it does not debilitate the patient like the fusion operations, it allows them to walk without limping and without pain.

Yes, You will receive continuous physiotherapy treatment from our well qualified physiotherapist throughout the whole process, it will last for 3 months.
